Students around the world are striking for climate action and health professionals can offer support by showing up in full force.
Doctors, nurses, health students and other members of the health community in Glasgow are asked to meet up at outside the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum (Argyle Street side entrance) at 10.30am. We'll be holding up a sign so you should be able to spot us! We will then join the Glasgow Student Climate Strike as a health group.
If you have a work uniform that identifies you as a health professional, such as scrubs or a lab coat, please wear this to the #ClimateStrike. This will offer a powerful visual that health professionals are standing with students. We also encourage you to make signs showing the health impacts of climate change.
Children and students have shown incredible leadership at these actions and it's important that health professionals attending the actions are supportive without taking centre stage. The Health Host of this action has already reached out to let the students know that health professionals are coming. The global climate strike page also has some great tips about supporting students in a way that doesn't take over their event. You can find those here: https://globalclimatestrike.net/organise/#community
You can also find general information posted by the youth who are striking in your community here: Glasgow #GlobalStrikeForClimate March
If you cannot attend the march in person, we’d encourage you to take a selfie or group photo at work to share on social media using the hashtags #climatestrike and #fridaysforfuture; please tag @medact in your tweets.
There is also a lot you can do at your school or workplace to support the strikes. Learn about actions you can take at work here.
